Developing a Prayer of Faith:

  1. Why Developing a Prayer of Faith is Essential.. Developing a Prayer of Faith is a vital step in deepening your relationship with God and His Son. It’s about learning how to authentically engage with the Divine, expressing trust and belief beyond mere words. Let’s explore this through the example of the thief on the cross in Luke 23:42-43. The thief recognizes that he is deserving of punishment for his actions but acknowledges that Jesus has done no wrong. His profound yet straightforward request, “Remember me when you come into your kingdom,” reflects an understanding that there is an existence beyond this life—a promise of an eternal kingdom for the innocent and faithful. In your own prayer, faith must include insight into the nature of an infinite God. As Paul states in Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith, it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” Faith begins in the secret place—your prayer closet—where you pour out your heart, just as Jesus advised His followers to

Thoughts one should have as they listen to “Let your faith reach out to God”.

    1. Mary Sitting at Jesus’ Feet – Faith Comes by Hearing and Hearing the Word of God Question: Are you intentionally sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening and obeying His Word, trusting that faith grows through hearing His voice?

Scripture: Romans 10:17 — “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

    1. The Voice of God – “This is My Beloved Son, Hear Him”

Question: Are you listening for and recognizing God’s voice amidst the noise of life, and are you willing to follow His guidance?

Scripture: Luke 9:35 — “This is my beloved Son: hear him.”This is the work of God that you believe on Him whom he has sent.

    1. Peter said, “Where shall we go, for you have the words of eternal life” Question: Do you believe that only Jesus has the words that lead to eternal life, and is that where your hope is anchored?

Scripture: John 6:68 — “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.”

    1. David – “After His Own Heart” – Loving God Fully (His many psalms are his witness) Are your songs about Jesus?

Question: Will you live to please God with all your heart, love, and soul as David did? Scripture: Matthew 22:37 — “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”

    1. Moses – Teaching That Nothing Is Impossible for God/

Question: To trust that with God, nothing is impossible, and are you leaning on His power to overcome challenges?

Scripture: Luke 1:37 — “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

    1. The Woman with the Issue of Blood – Touching Jesus’ Garment for Healing Question: Are you reaching out in faith, stretching forth your hand or heart to touch Jesus for deliverance and breakthrough?

Scripture: Mark 5:28 — “If I may but touch his clothes, I shall be whole.”

    1. Jairus’ Daughter – Hope in Jesus’ Coming and Eternal Life

Question: Are you holding onto hope that Jesus is coming through for your dreams and the salvation of your loved ones?

Scripture: Luke 8:50 — “Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.”

    1. The Centurion – “Just Speak the Word” in Any Situation

Question: Are you speaking faith over your situation, believing that Jesus only needs to talk to you to bring change? Listen with your ear to hear what the spirit has to say. Scripture: Luke 7:7 — “Speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.”

    Question:

Are you intentionally sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening and obeying His Word? Do you understand that the inner man is malnourished without the good part—the words of Jesus? His words are spirit and life, vital for our spiritual nourishment and growth.

    Supporting Scripture:

Romans 10:17 — “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” John 6:63 — “It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”

My Personal Journey of Faith — Like Mary at Jesus’ Feet

I intentionally sit at Jesus’ feet, just like Mary did, to receive His Word. I start by listening to Alexander Scourby’s audio recordings on YouTube, immersing myself in the Hebrew Scriptures and other Texts. As I hear Paul tell us that God spoke to the ancestors in various ways in times past, I realize that now, God speaks to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. I understand that I must obey the voice of God—from the mountain at Jesus’ baptism, I listen to His voice, and I recognize the importance of hearing Him for my life.

Just like David, I write songs about Jesus, my Lord, not about fleeting love stories or worldly pursuits. I focus on love for the Father, choosing to make Jesus the center of my songs and worship. As David declared, I sing a “new song,” celebrating God’s love, faithfulness, and my relationship with Him.

Following Moses’ example, I believe that with God, the impossible becomes possible. I trust that nothing is too hard for Him, and I lean on His power to accomplish miracles in my life. I visualize the woman with the issue of blood reaching out in faith, stretching forth her hand, knowing that just as she touched Jesus’ garment, I too can touch Him through prayer and faith and experience healing.

In prayer, I see Jairus’ faith, holding onto hope that Jesus is coming for my dreams and loved ones. I declare that Jesus only needs to speak the Word over any situation—whether it’s sickness, lack, or doubt—and change will come. I echo the Centurion’s words: “Lord, just speak your Word,” trusting that His spoken Word will bring breakthroughs in my life.

As I sing and meditate, I see each of these characters—Mary, David, Moses, the woman with the issue of blood, Jairus, and the Centurion—and their unwavering faith inspires me to keep my focus on Jesus, listening to His voice, obeying His Word, and trusting in His power to transform my life.

Here’s a suggested outline for the teaching:

Title: “Learning from the Characters of Faith – Sitting at Jesus’ Feet”

    Introduction:

    • Share your personal experience of how you intentionally engage with Jesus through His Word.

    • Personal reflection: “I listen to the Word daily, soaking in His voice, knowing that faith comes through hearing.”

Section 2: The Apostle Paul & Hebrews

    • Show how this encourages us to focus on listening for His voice today.

    • Highlight David’s love for God expressed through songs and worship. ● Scripture: Matthew 22:37 — Loving God with all our heart and soul. ● Personal application: “Like David, I write songs about Jesus, my Lord, focusing on His love and His relationship with the Father.”
