Healing: A Divine Gift of Sovereign Power.
The gift of healing is a sacred manifestation of the Holy Spirit that enables believers to pray for and see the sick healed through God’s power. While faith and prayer are essential, it is crucial to understand that healing is ultimately subject to God’s sovereign will. James 5:15 states:“And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up.”This indicates that healing occurs when God’s divine power is at work. The phrase “the Lord shall raise them up” emphasizes that God is the ultimate source and authority over healing.
Understanding from John 1:13:“Not of blood, nor of the flesh, nor of man, but of God.”This shows that divine healing—like salvation and all spiritual gifts—is not based solely on human effort or prayer alone. It is God who initiates and performs the miracle, governed by His divine purpose.
Key Point: While believers can exercise faith and pray by God’s promises, the manifestation of healing depends on God’s sovereign will. We submit to His timing, trusting that He knows best when and how to execute His divine plan. In essence, the gift of healing is a powerful, Spirit-led gift that demonstrates God’s power working through His people. It is exercised with faith, prayer, and expectancy—but always under the divine control of God’s sovereignty.
Biblical Example: Paul’s Thorn in the Flesh: Paul speaks of a “thorn in the flesh” (2 Corinthians 12:7-10). Despite requesting healing, God responded, “My grace is sufficient for thee,” showing that sometimes divine authority allows suffering to remain for spiritual growth or sacred purpose. We trust that God’s grace is enough to sustain us through all circumstances. After all, “no suffering can match what Jesus experienced on the cross for my sin”. Repeating these words many times brings me relief.
Summary: Worldly knowledge relies on external data and human effort. Holy Ghost knowledge is divine insight based on Jesus’ teachings, received directly from the Father. The gifts of the Holy Ghost foster a spiritual perspective—guiding believers in God’s perfect will, unveiling divine truths, and empowering lives through divine insight that surpasses natural understanding.
